DALLAS — Nebraska Furniture Mart said it reached another milestone when it recently began stocking the 1.3 million-square-foot distribution center for its new store coming to the market here in the spring.
The warehouse in The Colony, Texas, will support the 560,000-square-foot Nebraska Furniture Mart of Texas showroom and will take more than five months to fill, according to the Omaha, Neb.-based retailer, part of the Top 100 Berkshire Hathaway furniture division.
The warehouse is the size of about 27 football fields and features 100 aisles — or 6.5 miles — of racking for more than 500,000 furniture, flooring, appliances and electronics products, which will be available for delivery or drive-through pick-up by customers.
An NFM spokesperson declined to be more specific about the opening date, and said a local report stating the store will open in March or April is incorrect. The company did confirm that about 60 trucks a night will be unloaded at the warehouse and that the retailer has hired about 1,200 of the 2,000 people the store and warehouse will employ.
“As we gear up for our store opening in the spring of 2015, we are focused on ensuring our staff are trained properly, our product is stocked and available … and that our level of service will exceed customers’ expectations,” Ed Lipsett, Nebraska Furniture Mart-Texas store director, said in a release.
NFM expects to do about $600 million in annual sales at the new store, its third NFM showroom.
The store is part of a huge Grandscape mixed-use development the retailer is developing in The Colony suburb of Dallas. NFM also announced four restaurant tenants for the Grandscape West part of the development on 25 acres west of the store site — Cheddar’s Casual Café and Rock & Brews, opening in the summer, and Hard Eight BBQ and Mi Cocina, both expected to open in early fall 2015.
Rock & Brews was co-founded by Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley of the rock band KISS. Their Grandscape restaurant will be the first in Texas, featuring comfort food and “one of the area’s largest selections of international and craft beers, an energized rock inspired environment” and a pet friendly patio, according to a release.
Hotels coming to the development include a Hampton Inn & Suites, expected to open in the fourth quarter of 2015, and a Homewood Suites, projected to open about a year later.
